Maker

Made by Rajlakshmi. Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills is a pioneer in organic garment manufacturing in India which seeks to combine high-quality tailoring with a fair deal for farmers and workers, whilst supporting local environmental and social projects. People Tree and Rajlakshmi believe both in social sustainability as well as environmental sustainability, which is why we choose organic cotton. Organic cotton is grown without the use of insecticides, pesticides and nitrogen fertilisers. Not only does this reduce the cost by 38% for farmers, but it also protects them from being exposed to toxic chemicals and eliminates the greenhouse gas emissions created though the production of these chemical fertilizers. Through organic farming, soils remain healthy and sequester more carbon helping to mitigate climate change. Water consumption is reduced up to 91%, and there is a 40% reduction of C02 emissions per tonne of cotton fibre.

People Tree is a true pioneer in sustainable and fair fashion. They started in 1991 and since then, their mission has remained unchanged: to create products that meet the highest ethical values and environmental standards from start to finish.

Fair trade: People Tree is the first clothing brand that was allowed to put the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation) certification on their clothing. This certification guarantees good working conditions and fair wages. In addition to the certification, People Tree is also very transparent about their production. All suppliers are listed on their website, often with photos and videos, so you can really see who made the clothes or materials. People Tree mainly produces in Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, where fair working conditions have a major impact on the lives of employees.

Environmentally friendly: People Tree uses sustainable materials as much as possible, such as GOTS certified organic cotton, organic wool (mulesing-free), and Tencel.
