These Multiuse Blue Shawls are handwoven on a foot-loom by Mayan weavers in the Higlands of Guatemala. They are members of the women cooperative KemAjachel in Guatemala. This Mayan cooperative consist of 70 talented Mayan artisans.
Because of its size, it takes about 3 workdays to 6 master-weavers to wave one of these gorgeous shawls / plaids.
With your purchase you are helping these weavers to support their household economy, send their children to school and to protect their precious weaving traditions.

Brand: Quetzal Artisan is a brand that brings handmade and hand-woven products from North, Central and South America to Europe. The goal of Quetzal Artisan is to stimulate fair trade and to give real craftsmanship a stage. Quetzal Artisan has different collections that all try to make the world a bit better in their own way.
Fair Trade: The wool collection is designed and woven by women in Canada and the Guatemalan textile collection is made by skilled women from Guatemala. The Guatemalan women make beautiful designs that combine traditional and modern and they get paid fair wages for their work, which ensures that they can support their children.
Environmentally Friendly: For the wool collection Quetzal Artisan uses materials such as bamboo, alpaca wool, and organic cotton, which are spun in the Andes mountains of South America. For the Guatemalan collection, they only use natural materials such as cotton and viscose, and they paint by hand using natural paint products such as tree bark and flowers.
