The mysterious, refined, feminine geisha is a symbol of beauty. A long fascination with Japan has inspired this block print. Japan is also known for it’s traditional woodblock prints from early as 1600. The work of Katsushika Hokusai is a good example.
madeclothing is the label of Samantha from Amsterdam. The materials come from Stanley & Stella, a sustainable Belgian company that produces clothing in Bangladesh under fair working conditions. Stanley & Stella has the PETA certificate for vegan clothing, the GOTS quality mark that has strict conditions for fair and sustainable production and the working conditions are even more closely monitored by the Fair Wear Foundation, the report of which can be found on their website. The clothing is therefore of good origin! The materials used are organic cotton, Tencel, Modal, recycled polyester and recycled PET bottles. The clothing is printed in Amsterdam using the traditional block printing technique. This technique ensures unique garments every time. The ink is water-based, free of toxic ingredients. Samantha works for herself in Amsterdam and starts to earn enough money from madeclothing that she can get a living wage! Samantha donates part of the proceeds to the Ocean Clean up, because she considers the ocean very important.
